Ripoff

I have been contacted by Asset demanding over $9200 on a debt. I sent them a letter over a month ago requesting proof of validity for this debt, name of origional creditor, etc. And have not yet received a response. I had never, prior to these letters, even heard of this collection agency and feel they are trying to get money from me that I don't owe. Why else would they not provide me with the requested information? I think this is an illegal collection activity
