Questionable Collection for the New Year invoving former Sprint customers

On January 11 I received a letter from Cavalry Portfolio Services, LLC generated January 6 stating a collection of an outstanding balance from Sprint PCS. They are asking for $150 dollars.

I had cellular telephone service with Sprint PCS 2 years ago and I ended the service paid in full in October. Now two years later I am being asked to pay an outstanding balance for something I never received a bill for or was ever contacted about for 2 years.

When I contacted Cavalry to dispute this debt they said I need to fax them proof that I paid this bill off. It has been two years so the records are now missing. When I contacted Sprint PCS to get proof I was told that I owed $93.82. When I asked what the charge was for they could not tell me. When I asked why I was never sent a bill they could not tell me. When I asked for proof they said call Cavalry who had told me to call Sprint PCS in the first place.

I ask the question why does Cavalry say $150 and Sprint PCS say $93.82? What about the discrepancy? No one can give me a straight answer except to give them money or come up with a 2 year old record. One Cavalry employee said I could pay half the amount and that would take care of everything. I said that I did not want to pay a dime and then find out a few weeks later about former Sprint PCS consumers being conned out of money they never owed.

This sounds like an incredible scam and I know that it is affecting hundreds of others because the customer service phone lines at Cavalry have been tied up for three days by other angry consumers like myself. The workers manning the phone lines have been swamped and say that this whole mess started on December 23.

My main concern is that I don't want my FICO score to be attacked by this campaign. I have not had any report from any collection agency about a debt to Sprint PCS listed on my credit report until now and we all know that in this day and age that your credit is the most important thing to protect from illegal criminals to suspect corporations and collection agencies.

I pay my debts but I want it to be fair!
