Check Cashing - Checking account

I think that is is ridiculous that I have 3 accounts with US Bank, all in good standing, for several years and today when I went to cash a State tax check for $1100. They would not cash it. Told me I had to deposit all but $200 of it. I get direct deposit on one of my accounts every 2 weeks. I've had this account over 5 years in good standing. Whats the purpose of having a checking account if I have to go somewhere else to cash my check? This will be my last month with US Bank. I will be closing all 3 of my accounts. And I will never refer anyone else to them again!
