NCO Financial - Financial Recovery Services
NCO Financial and Financial Recovery Service Rip-off! My debt was settled nearly a decade ago but now they're trying to collect

Business & Finance

In 1995 I was charged an early termination fee by Airtouch, who later became Verizon. I called Airtouch and worked it out with them. Due to the circumstances and my good standing with them, they agreed to "write off" the $200 fee.

A few years later, I received a notice from a collection agency regarding this debt. I wrote a letter to them and explained that it had been taken care of with Airtouch/Verizon. I Didn't hear anything for a long time.

A few years later, I received another letter from another agency that was threatening me for $433.00. $200 and then interest for several years or fees added by the agency... Who knows?

At first, you don't even know who the original debt was supposed to be owed to and they can't give you any numbers that the orginal company can even reference to help you resolve this.

I finally got in touch with a local Verizon person in 2001 who found my records and she said that in 1998 the debt was "settled prior to the sale" to the collection agency and should never have been turned over.

She also stated the she would send a "deletion notice" to NCO Financial. I wrote all this down and kept the records and thought it was taken care of.

Last year, about this time, I received another letter from NCO and it said that if this was not a "just debt" that I had 30 days to let them know in writing. I did this and included all the information that I had.

Today, I recieved a phone call from FRS (Financial Recovery systems) who I guess now holds the 9 and 1/2 year old account. They asked for $633.00!!!

I tried to call Verizon and they state they do not have any record of this account at all and since Airtouch does not exist... There is no record. FRS says that in order to clear this matter, I need proof from the original company who turned over the account. Since they no longer exist, this isn't possible.

I called the number and Ext. I had for Michelle at verizon from 2001 and that number is no longer valid. I explained to Verizon that this person found this account information in but they say there is no record now.

How do you resolve this? NCO and FRS are unwilling to listen, the company does not exist any more that could verify the information that I took care of this in 1998.

How long can they harrass me?
