Ripoff withdrew 79.95 from my bank account, no permission to do so

Platinum Benefits Group called me stating that my credit card was approved but they needed my banking information to formalize this. Unfortunately they woke me up, as I work as a server and had put in a very hard strenous night the night before and was obviously not wide awake.

I had applied for a credit card to another company, but NEVER this company nor had I even heard of them or had ever contacted them. Without thinking I gave them my banking information. I contacted my credit union (Power Federal Credit Union in Syracuse, New York) to try to stop this withdrawal, and ask for advice. They basically gave me no information as to how I should get it back or give me the opinion I would get it back.

I wrote the Platinum Benefits Group and asked for a refund and I received a letter stating that the billing was explained to me at the time of the original call to me and authorized by me (and this was clearly an out and out lie). Therefore no refund was due me. I did not request this card, did not want it, and called both my credit union and the Platinum Benefits Group to cancel it immediately - all to no avail.

I am therefore out $79.95 to a fraudulent company. There are tons of reports of other people with this company on many Internet sites where they have done this same identical situation to multiple other sad, unfortunate people such as myself. Just recently in my community they are at it again and have involved the Better Business Bureau, Attorney General, etc.

THIS COMPANY HAS TO BE STOPPED - I could not afford that deduction from my account as I was in school and still studying for my NYS and Federal Mortuary Science Board Tests. I am an upstanding citizen but unfortunately I was taken advantage of on one morning where they woke me up. I have learned a very valuable lesson but that does not give me back my money. I have all of the necessary documentation to support this claim.

I am at a loss as to what to do next but I would desperately like to get my money back and prevent this from happening to other poor individuals. Thank you.
