Bad experience

Beauty & Appearance

I heard a commercial over the radio advertising a website where you can purchase gift certificates over the web for spa services at over 1000 spas nationwide. I thought it would be a great birthday gift for my wife since she loves to spend the day at the spa but rarely has the time with her busy schedule. From previous experiences I know a full day at the spa can be expensive so I purchased a gift certificate for $200. My wife selected a local spa from the list that accompanied the gift certificate and scheduled an appointment. Her day at the spa ended up costing much less than expected and she was given the remaining portion of her gift certificate $70 in the form of a gift certificate to this particular spa. Several months later when she tried to make an appointment to use her remaining gift certificate the spa had closed it doors and vanished into thin air - leaving her with a worthless $70 gift certificate. I contacted Spa Wish to explain the situation and was told that they were sorry and would try to contact the spa owner. After a month with no reply I again inquired with the folks at Spa Wish. I was told again that they were sorry but that there was nothing they could do. They stated that once the original gift certificate is exchanged they had nothing more to do with the transaction. I rejected their claim that once the initial transaction is complete Spa Wish has no more responsibility. The only reason I selected this particular spa was because it was on their list! Do they not have any responsibility to their customers to ensure they are partnering with reputable companies to provide services? I believe they do. To assert that they have no responsibility whatsoever in meeting the expectations of their customers is not only bad business but absurd. I want to alert many of you who purchase items and services over the web about a company that I had a bad experience.
