No captions

Our TV is old and the closed captioning no longer works. We had Direct TV for a couple years. At various times throughout that time, I would call, spend many hours on the phone with someone and could never get any captioning to work. Both my husband and I are deaf in one ear. The main response was that it was not their responsibility.

We switched to ATT U-verse. They helped us with closed captioning, on their receiver, immediately. No discussion of who was responsible for providing it, no hassles of too many menus, no comments of "that's not our job to provide captions. Buy a new tv."
An additional benefit, the tv no longer goes out in heavy storms!
