The credit check - Fraud / Bait and Switch

My husband didn't want to divulge our social security number to direct tv when we signed up, so he opted for the refundable charge on our credit card to check the credit. We didn't realize this because we didn't click on the explanation of refund button, but, it is refundable in five dollar a month increments for five year and it makes our contract a five year contract. This just seems mafia. Our false assumption was that the money would be immediately refunded. Oh we didn't qualify for the $100 gift card because of this either. The customer service is no service. I asked if they could run our credit now, 9 days after we signed up and they said no. A $400 mistake on the outset and we still have five years to go! Oh and by the way we have a credit score of 800, but they don't care because the got their $400.
