Tires - tire and lube

I am a 50 yr old ampute i had a blow out i put my spare on went to walmart tire and lube and tried to buy 2 new tires they told me that the size on the door did not match the size of the tires on the rims it came with 16 inch tires it now has 17 inch tires on stock chevy rims my ride is a chev tahoe suv if i had after market wheels i might understand this but they are chevy wheels plus my spare was half flat they didn't even air it up thanks walmart
