Overall, I have no preference for Home Depot/Lowe's, but Lowe's is closer and tends to have higher end products.in the past 2 years though, we've been disappointed every single time we've needed either an installation or repair service.

After purchasing a water heater when our gave up on a Saturday, we had to pay almost the same price again (same size, no extra work needed!!!) to get it installed, and because it was a weekend, they wanted yet another $200 for Sunday (didn't do that) emergency, I'm sorry but when is a water heater install NOT an emergency except for new construction??? The installer came, he didn't have all the correct parts, he was alone so he did not remove the old one, said he'd come back and finish. Took me 8-10 calls to get him to come back and then a week later, I found a pile of my good towels (stored in a closet nearby) had been used to mop up the cellar floor and then stuffed back into the closet, all moldy!!! I told Lowe's to come and take it out and I'd get a real plumber to do it, but they insisted on having him finish and he did, but complaining the whole time he was there and never never did anyone offer any compensation for the towels, or my having to stay home 3 days (yes he didn't even show up the first day because they overbooked him and they never called me).
#2 My Samsung refrigerator is less than 3 years old, it's already had 3 repairs on it. A month or so ago the fan started making this noise, so I called Lowe's extended service. They assigned a local repair man, who was to come the next day. When he called to confirm and asked what was wrong, he told me he couldn't take it apart without ruining it and I should try and defrost it myself first. This weekend, I defrosted it and now it won't come back on (fridge side only). I called Lowe's on Sunday and they said there would be a guy (the SAME guy mind you, apparently they only use ONE guy they said) coming Monday 8-5. Since I had the guy's number, I called him Monday afternoon (as I had NOT heard from him) and his answering machine said he was on vacation this week!!! I called Lowe's back who said they'd get back to me in 2-3 business days that they don't have ANYONE else to fix it. I've lost all my food at this point (the fridge was at over 60 degrees going on 4 days now and does not come on, though the freezer is fine, and we did try unplugging/resetting, etc). I called the local store to ask for help and they did try to help but I"m still waiting on a phone call on when the repairman is coming (it's now Tuesday!!!)
Their lack of contracting with 'quality' repair people is just unacceptable and the fact they'd let someone with a broken fridge sit for 5-6 days is also unacceptable. I will never buy another major anything from them again.
