Thousand Trails & CUI Collections
Thousand Trails Scam and Junk Collections

Traveling & Tourism

We purchased a trailer about 10 years ago and with it came a free membership for a year to Thousand Trails. We had to sign some papers to activate our "free membership" and we never paid Thousand Trails a penny. We used the campground one time and never went back. About Five years ago, we started getting invoices for annual dues. At that time, we called Thousand Trails several times and told them cancel our "free membership". After about 6 months the invoices stopped coming.

Lo and behold, another 5 years later, we have started getting letters from a collection agency trying to collect the annual dues plus 10 years of late fees which amount to more than the dues.

Of course we haven't paid anything and told the collection agency to contact our attorney.

Our attorney says it sounds like the collection agency purchased "Junk" debts for pennies on the dollar and will try to collect whatever they can. The Statue of Limitations in California is 4 years on written contracts. It is highly unlikely they will take us to court but if they do, it is even more likely it will be thrown out due to the statue of limitations.

It is aggravating to get collection calls and get threatening letters so I am posting this for anyone else who is experiencing the same situation.
