Never again! - passenger train service

My daughter and I traveled by Amtrak several years ago and truly enjoyed the experience. Our trip between New Orleans and Atlanta this past weekend ruined train travel for us for good. The passenger car was already dirty when we got on at the originating station, New Orleans. There was trash around the seats and in the seat-back pockets. The disposable headrests were already used. Worst of all, the restrooms had trash and urine on the floors. They stank!

The attendant was unfriendly and practically ignored everyone. He passed out the pillows, and we barely saw him again until he came through with a trash bag and told us to pick up the trash.

After spending a long day on the train, we had to wait 45 minutes to get our baggage in Atlanta. The wait for baggage was so long that my reserved ride bailed on us. The Saturday evening staff in the Atlanta station appeared to be bothered by our mere presence. Not overtly rude, just pretty much ignored us other than to bark directions.

The return trip was worse. The toilets were FULL! Use your imagination.

The Tuesday morning staff in the Atlanta station was polite and professional.
