Mercure Hotel Bali
Accor Hotel Management Group/Mercure Hotel Bali misleading pricing strategies Bali

Traveling & Tourism

Accor hotel management group offer a "advantage plus discount card" for hotels in the asia pacific region. The card costs around US$100. For this, the buyer becomes entitled to significant discounts on advertised hotel rates etc in particpating hotels: Sofitel, Novotel, Mercure and Ibis.indeed I was provided with a booklet of coupons giving me 50% discount on 7 nights.

Taking my prices from the Mercure Hotel (Bali) website, the superior room was advertised at US$130 per night, I phoned the hotel and negotiated hard to get the price down, using my coupons, to $86 per night. This included 2 breakfasts and local taxes.

Upon arrival at the hotel I was disappointed to see that my superior room was nothing more than a standard sized double room albeit with a small sea view balcony. No way on this planet was it worth the advertised rate of Us$130 for which I thought i would be entitled to something more substantial using my Advantage Plus Card.

My disgust was compounded when I walked into a hotel 5 minutes away from the Mercure and, for US$55 per night including breakfast and taxes etc, was offered a bungalow room, with terrace, almost twice the size of my room at the Mercure. Unfortunately by then it was too late for me to move hotels.

I simply wish to report the disgraceful, unfair and misleading pricing strategies that these hotels must know that they are engaging in to screw the dollars out of the poor unknowing touists. Suffice to say that i shall never set foot again in a hotel that is managed by the accor group.
