Amtrak, waste of out tax dollars ans I'm a Democrat

This could be one of the most popular modes of travel if Amtrak would just make some small changes. I took the train from Taylor Texas to Little Rock Arkansas on April 14 and returned on April 19. I will start by listing the pluses. The train ride was quiet, there was plenty of legroom, there was plenty of room to get up and stretch, and the convenience of an onboard bathroom is good too. However all these good things are dwarfed by the obvious bad. First, not only were the bathrooms filthy but the smell permeated throughout the whole car. The lack of attention given to the bathrooms was glaring. The baseboards were caked with filth. Whatever is causing these two problems should not be too hard to figure out and remedied. Also, the employees were indifferent and in some cases downright rude. This particular train did not have an observation car on the way up to Little Rock due to some unexplained problem. Part of the dining car had a few tables that were not being used by anyone because the crew was using them to sit around and gossip and they would not allow anyone else to sit and eat there. They would tell anyone who took a seat at one of the empty tables to go back to their seat. When asked why, they said that it would not be fair to everyone if only a few people were allowed to sit there. Come on guys, what kind of BS is that? The car I rode in needed to be vacuumed. I was told I could not take videos on the train unless I pointed my camera out the window. Later I read on one of the publications attached to the wall in the Little Rock station that videos and photos were indeed allowed. On the way back one of the Amtrak employees made a young lady cry and threatened a young man with calling the police because he accidently smoked on the wrong side of the platform. I overheard several people say they would never again ride the train. The Amtrak organization is a huge failure and needs to get serious about customer service and quality and soon. They could begin by getting out from under the union%u2019s spell and firing most of the employees they have now and replacing them with people who are serious about their jobs. The cumulative damage being incurred daily is going to push them to the point of no return and they will not recover. What a shame for such an organization that had great potential.
