Prepaid Vacation Scam that is used by other companies as a promotion

Hey friends, don't be sucked in by these Sun Country Travel people that are peddling their overpriced ($1,000'S OF DOLLARS) travel club and offering free ripoff vacation packages from MVI!!!

We received an offer from Sun Country Travel in Houston for a three day, two night prepaid vacation to Las Vegas.in order to receive this we had to attend a presentation at Sun Country's office on Hwy 290 in Houston. After the presentation, we were given a prepaid MVI Air and Land Vacation.

We followed all of the instructions exactly, returning our registation validation form by certified mail, along with a $100 Postal Money order as requested. Fine print on the vacation form says that you will pay a $50 per person refundable deposit, airline taxes of $25-$75 and hotel tax which was not defined. (Rip Off Catch No 1)

Next we received a vacation request form, which incidentally asked for a Certificate code that was on the registration validation form that had been previously mailed. Had I not copied this form then I would have not been able to provide this code number. The letter that they sent with this form limited departure to Tuesday or Wednesday, specified a large number of peak season dates and started the sales pitch for preferential "VIP" upgrades. (Rip Off Catch No 2)

After some period, we received another letter from MVI with a reservations hot line number and a Proposed Air Itinerary that had a flight schedule with times but no dates. The departure time from Houston was (day 1) 7:22 PM, through Dallas and arriving Las Vegas at 10:37 PM. The return was scheduled at 7 (day 3): 00 AM through Phoenix and arriving Houston at 1:47 PM.in big bold type on the bottom was an explanation that these are the most economical fares, along with another upgrade sales pitch. Oh, by the way, the airline tax that was requested at this time was $67.70 per person, Total $135.40 for two people.

Now, let's see, arrive at about 11:00 PM, spend the night and the next day in Las Vegas, spend the next night in Las Vegas, getting up at 4:00 AM to arrive at the airport at 5:00 AM, which is 2 hours ahead of the return flight as required. Now, I am not a mathmetician but this looks more like two nights and one day rather than three days and two nights that were promised, along with $235.40 and the promise of untold hotel tax on arrival. What do you think? (Rip Off Catch No 3)

Well, I did call that reservation hot line to immediately tell these people what crooks they are because I was not willing to fly to Las Vegas on this gruesome schedule and then find out that we would be paying another $40 per night and per person "Hotel Tax" for some cut rate flea bag economy accomodation. (I might have avoided Rip Off Catch No 4 but we'll see.)

I will be calling MVI's customer service line to complain. I also will follow up in writing to request my refund because, otherwise, I will probably never see the refund that the guy on the reservations hot line promised would arrive in 30 days.

Anyway, I hope that my trouble in reporting this ends up saving someone else a lot of trouble.
