Fake miles purchases

I had thousands of miles expiring in Dec 08 and since I couldn't find a flight to any of the destinations I wanted in the next 350 days available to redeem them on, I traded a few thousand of those miles for 5 different magazine subscriptions advertised on their site... And donated the rest to charity.
I've received ONE of those magazines total. On March 30th... OVER THREE MONTHS LATER, I get brusque postcards informing me that "we could not process in exchange for your miles. No phone number. No offer to use those lost miles on another publication.
So I traded my miles in good faith, only to end up with nothing. (For all I know, the charities never got their remaining 15-20k miles either - as I never received a word of confirmation from Delta or the charity.
Life is too short to sit on the phone dealing with their customer service reps - and a couple of past emails I've sent have gone unanswered on other matters, so I won't even bother on this one.
But I did want to warn everyone else: DO NOT redeem your miles for any merchandise or services Delta advertises: chances are, you'll never get them.
