Purchase of International tickets from Delta Airlines

Your comments and suggested actions would be appreciated on the following issue:

On Feb 12, I purchased two Delta airline tickets from El Paso Tx to Manchester England for a total cost of $2,270. The actual flight dates are scheduled for May 28 returning on June 11.

When viewing the Delta web site on Mar 20, the same flights were priced at $1,648. This is a difference of $622.

I spoke with a Delta CSR to request a credit for the difference in the cost of the flights ($622). The response I got was the following:

Due to the type of reservation, I cannot get a credit and to cancel the existing tickets and make new reservations would cost $250 per ticket equating to a total of $500. This would mean if I followed through with this ridiculous idea, the difference in cost from the original ticket price would be $122 and not the $622 as discussed above.

I explained to the CSR that this was unacceptable and she stated that speaking with a supervisor or manager would make no difference. The only thing she could suggest was for me to complain to the Corporate Office in Atlanta. This I did. However, the response received was a quotation from their rules and regulatons. I must also add that the CSR also acknowledged that many other customers had complained of the very same issue.

It is interesting to note that in the old days, the consumer was always advised to reserve all tickets as soon as possible. The earlier the reservation the better the ticket price. I do not recall the location but somewhere on the Delta web site it refers to seven, fourteen and twenty one days levels of discounts.
