Scammed like many others, but got out by a hair! Read how!

I too fell for the Royal Holiday scam while on vacation at the Wyndham Resort in the Bahamas in June. I won't re-iterate the details because they mirror the many other accounts on this website. I paid over $3500.00 on my credit card for the trial membership and was going to make payments for the balance.

I was roped on the last day of my vacation and started having doubts as soon as I returned home the next day. I thoroughly reviewed the contract and the other papers I got and immediately drafted a letter cancelling the membership in accordance with the rules outlined in the contract. I only had five days from when I signed the contract, so I knew I had to act fast. I sent the letter certified, return receipt requested to the bahamas on the fourth day, saving the receipt to prove when it was mailed.

I started making phone calls to Royal Holiday when I didn't hear anything after two weeks, and was told several times that they were working on it. I received my return receipt back, so I had proof that my letter was received. Once I had this, I started telling them that I had no reservation to filing suit in the bahamas, since that is the law they place themselves under.

The whole process took two months, but in the end, they released me from the contract and refunded my money.

I know it's probably too late for many who are knee deep in their contracts with Royal Holiday, but my advice is to always keep meticulous records and always state your requests and demands in a calm, professional manner in writing. If you let them know you're upset, they will not take you seriously. I just told them what I expected and by when and what I would do if I didn't get it, both on the phone and by mail.
