Travelers Advantage/Great Fun
Misleading Membership

Traveling & Tourism

I reserved a room with online through Days Inn's website and received a message about how I can receive $30 off my stay, as well as $20 off a dinner during the stay. The membership was free for the first 30 days and I could cancel at any time and not be charged.

I never received a membership package in the mail, other than one card which said Great Fun on it. I cancelled the membership within two weeks of joining by calling an 800 number they gave me during the registration. After being on the phone for several minutes as they tried to keep me as a member, I was able to cancel my membership.

I noticed a charge on my credit card for $11.00 and the merchant name is TLG*GREATFN. I thought this charge was for a recent haircut at Great Clips and did not pay much attention to it.in September, I noticed the same charge again. I began researching everything to see what I could find and then realized this charge was from Travelers Advantage. I called Travelers Advantage and told them I had cancelled my membership but I was still being charged. They said my membership was cancelled and that they never charged me. They then asked me to read the merchant name. I did and they said, "Oh, that is Great Fun. I will transfer you."

I reached Great Fun and they said I never cancelled my membership. I told them I had no idea that I had joined TWO MEMBERSHIPS when I originally signed up. I thought I only signed up for Travelers Advantage, and when I received the Great Fun card in the mail, I thought this was part of the Travelers Advantage Membership.

They will not refund my $22 in charges and I was able to cancel my membership. That's when I found the Rip Off report and realized that others are having the same experience.

By the way, Great Fun tried to keep me on as a member by saying they would give me a certificate for staying on and that they would mail me another membership package. I told them no and to cancel the membership forever.

Lastly, I never received the original $30 for my stay and $20 for my meal. Since I never received a registration package in the mail, I did not realize I had to submit receipts for both my stay and meal. I thought they would send me instructions for doing this, but found out on my own that I had to submit receipts.

Whatever you do, do not sign up for any membership like this. You will be scammed, even if they tell you there's no obligation within the trial period.
