"You've Won!" Pacific Monarch's Misrepresentation and False Advertising Time Share Scam! Encino Showroom California

Traveling & Tourism

Pacific Monarch is pathetic. I signed up to win a car at the local mall. Six months later I receive a call from Pacific Monarch. The representative tells me that I've won either $100K, a Mercedes, a cruise or a vacation (various destinations). He says that all I have to do to claim my prize is to show up at an auditorium, spin the wheel and I will win one of the 4 prizes. I asked him who sponsored the event and "what's the catch?" He said Pacific Monarch Resorts is sponsoring the event and there "IS NO CATCH". He says that all I have to do is listen to a 20 minute presentation about their company. They faxed over the info. The fax states that it is a 90 minute presentation regarding time shares. All I have to do is listen to the presentation and then I will receive my prize. He said 20 minutes; the fax said 90 minutes; whatever. I may win a cool prize. So I go to the presentation. They ask for an ID and credit card as proof of identification, but I later realize why they want a credit card. Every guest there is set up with a representative. Then, for 2 1/2 hours, the representative tries to sell me a time share. Not 20 minutes, not 90 minutes — 2 1/2 hours 8:30-11:00PM. I politely refuse once. They send another sales person over to sell me again. I politely refuse again. They send yet another person over to try and sell me AGAIN. Each, time they became more and more aggressive. Still, I politely refuse. After seeing that I'm not interested, the main representative becomes very rude. She says "I'm sorry that you think this is an investment and that you don't think vacationing is important." I said, "I DO think vacationing is important, however I do not vacation enough to pay a $300 some monthly payment and put thousands of dollars down (that's where the credit card comes in) so that I can own a timeshare". Finally, a 4th guy comes up to sign me out. My representative takes me to a room with a box of scratch cards and a wheel with numbers. She sarcastically says, "Have fun on your vacation" and leaves. There are two women at the check out desk. They tell me that I need to pick a scratch off card. The scratch card supposedly offers either money, a car or a chance to spin. No one said anything about scratch cards before. They made it seem like all 4 prizes were attainable by spinning the wheel. That's not the case. Anyway, I scratch a card and of course, it's a chance to spin. There are no prize names corresponding to the numbers so there is no way of telling what I was actually winning. I spin the wheel and land on a "2". I ask, "What does a "2" mean?" One girl replies reply, "Oh, that's a Vegas vacation." I go to the desk to sign out and take the vacation voucher card. After leaving, I read the card. The vacation pays airfare for 2 (times decided by the company) and a hotel stay at the Sahara, Circus Circus or comparable hotel. It says I can only go on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. I also cannot go within 7 days of any major holiday and cannot go if a convention is in town. What a joke. Circus Circus and Sahara are the biggest dumps in Las Vegas and the trip is only good on 3 of the 5 weekdays. Give me a break. Once they knew I wasn't interested, the staff was rude and became aggressive and sarcastic. No catch — please. They are trying to sell you time shares. I feel bad for the people that actually fell for their load of b.S. And purchased one. If you see a "win a car" sweepstakes at the mall — keep walking. This is a case that validates the statement, "nothing in life is for free".
