Timeshare is a scam & they sent Monterey Collection Services after me! Playa Del Carmen Internet

I was scammed by Premier Holiday in Nassau, Bahamas on February 5. While on vacation, we were lured in with the offer of $50.00 in gambling money for the Crystal Palace Casino. The sales people offered us alcoholic drinks and their high pressure sales got me to buy. I figured it was legit since this was all inside of the Crystal Palace Casino.

I have never used my 30 weeks of "timeshare" and every time I have tried to contact them, they switch #'s or there is no one available that speaks English. I recently had my husband (who speaks Spanish) contact them to try to use my "timeshare" for the Bahamas in 2009 and after waiting a week for a reply email, I found out they no longer have any resorts in Nassau. I requested a current list of resorts, but they tell me they cannot supply me with a list, but in the Caribbean they "have hotels in Dominican Republic and Jamaica only (Riu Hotels and resorts)".

Another issue I have is that since I have moved a few times and as with any bill I notified them that I was moving (via call & email). Two years in a row, I did not receive the yearly maintenance dues and it slipped my mind since I tend to pay bills when I physically see them, so they reported it on my credit and it was a huge nightmare! Even though I contacted them and never received anything, their collection agency (Monterey Collection Services) reported it on my credit and pressured me to pay the fees plus penalties or it would affect my credit. They also charged me for a special one time assessment fee of $499.00 during this time yet it was in my contract that there were no special fees ever to be assessed. Again they threatened that if I did not pay it, it would go against my credit.

I tried to cancel my contract, but to no avail. I see others have been scammed by them too, but can anyone instruct me as to my rights or what I should do? I realize I was scammed and would love to get my money back, but at this point I would be OK with just not having to pay these yearly maintenance fees any more. Our government needs to step up and hold these people accountable because they are scamming American's from a lot of money and we seem to have no rights since they are outside of the United States.
