Dirty broken down smelly rooms

Pulling a trailer down I-10, sun going down, wife and grand daughter getting tired and hungry, we stopped at Talahassee exit on I-10. The parking lot was wide open and seemed clean, so we stopped at the sign. Americas Best Value Inns, proclaiming new rooms and values galore.

We checked in, put Amex on counter, got our key and directions to our room, which was on the ground floor. That way we would be close to the parking lot and my van and trailer. (it was the last ground floor room available I was told) Then we went to eat.

When we came back and entered the room - the stench was enough to knock you down. (this was a no smoking room). This room was beat up, everything had an odor. The bathroom had tile broken, looked like a 3rd world country. Faucets on tub were all bent and all leaked. Tub had some kind of residue on it, the girls were having no part of a bath in that. My granddaughter got her sleeping bag out of the trailer and put it over the bedding, she was not going to crawl in between the sheets on that bed for anything. The girls went to get ice and some soft drings. There were a couple of questionable people hovering at the coke machine trying to bum quarters. Scared the heck out of the girls. After a short nite's rest, we got up early and loaded back up to leave.

During the nite, someone had tried (un succesfully) to get into my van. They left me a message in the form of four letter words scratched into the paint on the side of my van. The morning clerk, when informed of this, showed absolutly NO concern whatsoever. I am not sure he even understood the words I said to him.

Upon leaving I could see, that the two rooms above mine had been burned out. There was plywood over the front windows and smoke damage on the walls. This was not observed, in the dark, the night before. That tells us why the stench in the room.

What a dump. I have never stayed in a worse room in my life. The health department should close this facility down. All this has been reported to Coorporate Hdquarters, and there has been no response from them.

Again - in all my years of travel I have never seen a worse room (period) not in this or any other country. How can they get a license? This sure says something about Talahassee I think.
