Holiday Travel Of America
Bait and Switch

Traveling & Tourism

I've joined the ripoff club, but not by design. I dropped my business card in a bowl at a business fair to win a "free flight to Hawaii" and was so excited when I won, screamed. When I read the certificate I just knew it was a scam.

It said the flight was "free" if I agreed to stay at their hotel network "at current published rates" for no less than 7 nights. Those of you who glance at the published rates on the door in your hotel room you know they tend to be MUCH higher, sometimes triple the amount. So let's say the published rate is $250 a night but the average consumer would pay $99 a night, you are paying $151 more (per night) than you need to for 7 nights.

I was still hopeful so I went to the site to see example hotels and rates. Surprise, surprise, they have no list, no example, no consumer comments of how happy they are, nothing but red tape. There is also no mention of what airline, which is a scary proposition.

Of course to even get in the reservation que, you need to submit $10, and three dates you "could" go. Based on the other reports, they won't get back with you. I just saved myself $10.
