United Airlines
Not Accomodating to the Handicapped Frankfurt

Traveling & Tourism

I went to Germany and broke my ankle in 3 spots. I had to fly home to the USA for surgery.

I checked in at the United Counter in Frankfurt 4 hours prior to the flight time to get a seat so that I could prop up my foot. That was doctor's orders due to severe swelling and the temporary cast the doctor put on it.

The girl at the counter assured me that she at least put me in an isle seat. She was not very friendly anyway. She showed me a picture of a seating chart and said I was in an isle seat. They offered no help whatsoever. I get on the plane, they take my crutches which is understandable, they say for security reasons.

I am total non-weight bearing on my ankle. She shows me to my seat which is in the MIDDLE of the plane. Of course I had terrible difficulty getting to my seat. I had to climb over about 7 seats to get to mine.

During the flight I had asked for my crutches to go to the bathroom several times and 7 people would have to move for me to get out. The stewardess kept saying, she could get my crutches in a little bit. Needless to say I never got them, I had to hold it until I got to Chicago. They never offered any help at O'hare to get to the other side of the airport for my connecting flight to Michigan.

I wrote United and never got a response. I then called and they said the person I needed to talk to would call me back. Never a return call. They just do not care, they want their money and that is it!

I just wanted to make United aware of their lack of help and the terrible service I received. They obviously did not care.

I had a temporary handicap. If they treat me this way, it is terrible for a person with a permanent handicap.

Needless to say I would NEVER fly with United ever again. I fly to Germany every 2 years.
