Traveling & Tourism

BEWARE of WCC/ARC calling to sell you a vacation package.

I bought a $356 "beach vacation" package from WCC and was told up front I would have to pay port charges. I mailed in my reservation form in January for an APril vacation, far longer than the 45 day minimum advance notice, and asked them to tell me if I was going to incur any "holiday travel fees."

Well, it took until mid-March for them to contact me, and then they say the Florida hotel is 20 miles from the coast and there is no upgrade—some beach vacation! The Bahamas hotel is in the middle of downtown, no where near the beach either! Of course, I can upgrade for a fee (which in some cases were higher than the actual room rate advertised on the resort Web sites. So much for wholesale connections). I chose an upgrade and received an email from my "travel coordinator, Jennifer" that I was booked and should receive confirmation in 7-10 business days.

Wouldn't you know it, 10,11, 12 days went by—I emailed Jennifer daily and got no response until my 3rd email saying there was a problem with the hotel I was booked in and I'll have to change. She doesn't know how it happened.

I chose another hotel. Got email confirmation this time and she's going to email me an invoice. Well, after a week, I said I never got it and she said to send her a fax number. I sent her the fax number on Wed. Am. Wrote again on Thurs. And said I have no fax—no response. All day Friday, I sent emails (probably 6 that day). No fax. Finally I called, spoke to Misty who said Jennifer is on the other line, so I said I'll wait. Misty puts me on hold, comes back a few min later and says "Jennifer left early, sorry I didn't know." Jennifer never wrote, Misty never sent the forms she was goign to.

Finally, another man sent the forms—and it has a holiday travel fee on it, even though I spec. Asked for this information and no one said anything! Apparently all Saturdays and Sundays are considered "holidays" in their book. They charged me twice for my "one-time booking fee" as well.

No one signs the letters they send, so they can't be traced. I've called this co many times and no one returns your calls until they want money from you. And now, I get a letter that says "no personal checks w/in 30 days"—if they hadn't ignored me and kept screwing up, it woudln't have been 1 week before my vacation. I tried to speak with a manager, and no one is available.

Be very careful of this company. I feel completely suckered at having gotten into bed with ARC and WCC, which I'm sure is the point.
