Missed the connecting flight

I booked a flight beijing-bangkok with a stopover in guangzhou for 27 of april, leaving beijing at 16.30. The flight beijing-guangzhou was delayed for two hours. Due to this I missed my connecting flight guangzhou-bangkok. As I was planning to arrive to bangkok around midnight, I booked the hotel in advance. Being unable to arrive due to the missed flight, I contacted the hotel trying to cancel the booking. However the hotel staff told me that no refunds or cancelations. So I lost my money - room rate for one night. I would like the china southern airlines to either refund me one night pay or contact the hotel and pay for one more night so that I can exend my stay
