Giant fitness is a disreputable organisation. Our experience with them has been horrible and we will never ever trust a fitness company again. My wife joined the gym in Delran, NJ and wanted to sign up for a few months with a personal trainer. So she signed a contract after a cursory chat with the advisor/receptionist who explained that she could terminate the contract after a few months if she wanted. Unfortunately, the contract was an iron clad committment enforced by a debt collection agency that stated that she had been "loaned" the total amount due and she was now entitled to pay almost 1369 (in 10 payments) on top of an initial payment of 381.40 bringing the total to almost 1750.00. However, we did not realise that the contract was then given to a third party debt collection agency called Affiliated Acceptance Corporation until we got a letter in the mail from the aforementioned company outlining their exorbitant penalty fees and almost impossible to break contract along with other unsatisfactory practices including the requirement that we notify both AAC as well as Giant fitness/Pro-fit about any changes to the plan.

We decided to grind our teeth and pay out the contract since it was essential our naivete that got us into this contract in the first place. However, I am now moving out of state as my employer has changed and when my wife informed Giant fitness in advance about the move and gave in the form for breaking the contract effective from June 30, the receptionist informed her that a signed lease with the new landlord is not adequate and that she needed to show a utility bill as proof of her new address - this is devious as we will move only in June and we do not anticipate getting a bill until July end meaning that the 60 day notification will put the effective termination date in September when the contract will expire. (so they will bill us for 3 months that we will not be using the gym - we won't even be in the state let alone the city! He the gave my wife a sheet of paper and asked her to call AAC to cancel the fitness trainer contract.

Additionally, when we informed AAC about the move and requested a relocation buy out as outlined in their contract, they suggested that we contact Giant Fitness as they had to send them the confirmation first before they could act on the request. So we are still in the process of trying to extricate ourselves from these sharks - we have sent both of them registered letters informing them of our intent and will follow up with more letters until we can succeed.

Lessons for life for everyone: 1. Do Not sign any contract without looking over it carefully - assume everyone is out to get your money 2. Avoid Giant fitness or any other gym that uses third party debt collectors - they all are shady (why should a reputable business prevent you from leaving if you are not satisfied) 3. Anyone stating that they are "loaning"/ offering you a " credit" for services when all they are doing is collecting money monthly from you is shady.
