Lady Of America, Ladies Workout Express
Fraudulent contract ripoff

I signed a 3-year contract with Lady of America in Coral Springs, Florida. At the time I signed this contract, I notified the manager who signed me up that I would be moving to Arizona in a few months. He assured me that there were Lady of America clubs in both Phoenix and nearby Scottsdale; and that I could transfer my membership. I also looked up Lady of America's website, and confirmed that indeed there were clubs where I would be moving.

However, when I moved I found that the 2 gyms nearest to me had both closed down. Their phone numbers are disconnected. I called the 800 # customer service, who were not aware that these clubs had closed, and they were not helpful at all. They sent me to a Ladies Workout Express, which is completely different from the gym at which I signed up. The gym I registered at had many classes, cardio machines, weights, etc... The Ladies Workout Express is very tiney, it has no classes, no cardio machines, and very few weights. The concept is entirely different, as it is set up for a 30-minute circuit training course, and that is all.

However, nobody in customer service seemed to understand that the two gyms, although they may be affiliated, are completely different in their concept and services.

Because I was assured that I would be able to transfer my membership to an equivalent center, I do not feel that I should be forced to pay for a gym that is completely useless to me. It even states on the back of my contract that if my gym closes, they have to provide an equivalent center within 5 miles. They have failed to do so. However, because I moved from my original location, the company is trying to force me to continue making payments because their "affiliates" are within a 25 mile range of my new address. I believe I should have been made aware of the huge difference between these two centers. I never would have signed up for 3 years if I knew that they would try to force me to pay for a gym that is underequipped and has virtually no services. This is an unfair business practice.
