Cancellation rip off and gym closing

I recieved a message on my phone that the Deerfield gym was closing for good the next day. The nearest Gold's is about 7-8 miles away. My contract states if the gym goes out of business or moves within 5 driving miles contract will be refunded at a pro rated rate.

As I called to resolve this I was told it is handled one contract at a time and to check back in a few weeks. Which I did and my turn wasn't up. They offered my a additional year if I didn't cancel. I didn't take tis offer because it was to far away. I then mentioned I would not be going to the gym because of trying to resolve the cancellation.in other words to freeze my account.

Well it's been about 15 months of calling once or twice a month and being transfored from one employee to another with no one able to give me a anwser. Every phone call would be let me get back to you and I wouldn't get a return call.

After a month or so of this I was given the name of Janet which gave me some hope, someone who can actully help. I was wrong after a few calls and no return calls I was then told a person named Harmony is now handling cancellations.

I spoke to Harmony in May and explained my past with return calls and here words where I give you my word and my word is everything, that I will call you tomorrow. Well to no surprise no phone call the next day but two days later there was a message on my phone from someone at Golds. I called back 10 minutes later and was told that Harmony was not their. I have left over 10 messages to Harmony with out one response and was told she does get her messages.

I have since called every other day for 2 weeks and left messages and asked if anyone else could help with no response. I did however call and talk to Janet who I was told does cancellation also and Janet told me she is a personal trainer now and can't help me. My wife called and asked if there is a PT named Janet and was told no. I have asked to make a appointment and asked what the owners name is to send him a letter and Gold's wouldn't disclose any info. I have never raised my voice or been negative in any way and don't understand why the cold shoulder.

I know this is a little long winded but its been now 16 months. I did get a anwser that Gold's wouldn't refund anything and my membership has been running the last 16 months.

In a nut shell
I've been a member for 4 years and recently bought a new membership from a friend who physically couldn't work out anymore. Gold's gym charged me $50 to transfer my friends membership which was paid in full to me. I actully paid my friend the pro rated amount for the remainder of the contract. Since I paid the transfer fee to Golds I believe thats a binding contract in my name. Which intitles me to all stipulations of the contract refunds and privilages.
