Ripoff refuse to cancel membership

I moved from houston texas to lubbock texas after getting married. I called bally total fitness to cancel the membership in houston. They gave me the 800 number and I started talking to the office in california.

They asked me to send them a proof of address change. I sent it to them three times by registered mail. The first two they said they did not recieve it the third time they recieved it and sent me a letter saying they could not locate my account although I sent them my account number.

In the begining they asked for cancellation fee and one month membership I agreed and I did not even want the deposit back. But they refused to cancel giving me an excuse everyday.

Not only that, they kept harrasing me with phone calls every day. I cried several times because of that I decided to forget them and not reply to their calls.

Few days ago I was surprised when a guy called me saying he is from capital managment. It looks like a collection agency. I guess they are asking me for hundreds of dollars now.

Oh my god I can not believe it. What kind of laws give them to rights to do this to me and to ruin my credit. They are thieves. I can not believe this is happening in USA. Then I checked online and I found millions of complaints and lawsuits against them.

They are doing this to many people. Why this company is still running after all of this. Probably a big head is after them. Now I'm confused and I don't know what to do. Please help me. Thanks
