They say you can start a membership for $5, and if you change your mind, you just need to let them know in writing in 72hrs. Well, I later was told that the monthly membership fee was $30/mo and it would be automatically debited from your checking account.

The next day, I then wrote a letter to Bally's financial center office asking them to cancel my membership and refund my $5. Problem solved right?"wrong" - I received a letter in the mail stating that since I had cancelled my auto-debit, I was no longer eligible for the corporate discount and would have to pay the full regular annual membership fee of $1,300 - "WOA." I called Bally's to see what was going on since I new I had mailed my letter within the 72hr period. Bally's stated that the letter would have had to be received by them within 72hrs, and mine was not, so therefore, i was liable for the full membership price since a "Bally's membership is a contract."
