New Year's Eve my parents, who were residents at the time, attended an event hosted by Atria Bell Court. While they were at the event, someone gained access to their apartment, went into my mother's purse, which was at the foot of her bed, got her keys and unlocked the safe, which was hidden in their bedroom closet. The thief (or thieves) took the most expensive jewelry. No sign of a break-in—the apartment wasn't ransacked. The thieves knew my parents whereabouts that evening, and they knew the location of the safe. Maintenance, housekeeping, and the "trained staff" can sign out a master key and enter the residents' apartments at any time. Yep, they can enter the apartment, case it out, and come back at a later time, and take what they want.
The Tucson police were called. The officer came and a report was filed.
Atria Bell won't take responsibility for their employees' actions, and they came up with plenty of excuses for my parents' robbery. Of course my parents moved out, for fear of the thief or thieves returning and cleaning them out.
The Tucson Police Department doesn't consider it elderly abuse, because my parents weren't physically harmed. The police department has closed the case.
