National Register Called my 88 yo father a liar after he mistakenly bought their service but didn't use it

My 88 yo father mistakenly paid $2,000 for a sports betting service in mid April. He is more than half deaf, easily confused and has fallen victim to mail and phone scams in the past. Immediately after he ordered this service and gave them his credt card info, he realized his mistake and called back to cancel.

He called them dozens of times over many weeks but could not get through to a live person.in mediation with Discover the credit card company, Thoroughbred Winners told them my father called many times, therefore he used the service and they will not refund. He never used the service, he was trying to call and cancel! In their rebuttal with Discover, they accused him of lying to his credit card company, but also acknowledged his confused state by saying "he doesn't seem to know what he wants."

I have written to Thoroughbred Winners to try to resolve this, also filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau - they ignored all communication. I have now filed a complaint with the Nassau Co Consumer Affairs Dept in hope of some resolution short of civil litigation.

Thoroughbredwinners.com aka National Register has taken advantage of an elderly man with impairments that they themself acknowledge. I want a refund for my father for this service he has not used and tried in vain to cancel.
