Rents leaking trucks!

Rented a truck from this location for a one way move from MA to SC, driving through PA we encountered rain and water started pouring into the cab of the truck down both the driver and passengers back. After sitting in a puddle of water long enough to where I could pull over we put towels on the seats and changed into dry clothing. A little while later had to pull over again to wring towels out and change into more dry clothing.

Upon arrival to South Carolina we found out the laptop that was in the cab of the truck had water all over it along with everything else that was behind the seats. We called and filed a complaint about the leaking truck, tried to set up a place for storage because uhaul supposedly offers a free month of storage with the rental of the truck. To my inconvenience they didn't have any storage nearby so had to drive an hour to put my personal belongings into storage (Oh yeah, they tried charging me for the storage also). Off loading the truck we encountered more wet property on the passenger side of the cargo area, to include my daughters mattress and box spring, my wife's cherry wood vanity, a couple of boxes, the arm of my couch, and moisture on my flat screen tv. Of course we were furious by now...

Now mind you when I heard I had to drive all over the place just to get my stuff in storage and drop the truck off I complained because it would put me over my allotted mileage, which they charge. 40/mile over. So they issued me a waiver on the mileage and a 50 dollar gift certificate for gas.

So I dropped the truck off an hour before the time it was due and of course the office was closed, my wife called first thing Monday morning to find out they tried to charge my card an additional 129 dollars for mileage, gas, and a late charge.

Anyways, it has been a week now of getting the runaround with uhaul regarding my damaged property that probably smells terrible by now from being wet, and all of the inconveniences they have thrown at me. As a disabled veteran I cant afford to sue the socks out of them or even replace the stuff that was wet. But I hope the ole saying is true and what comes around goes around, I hope the next person they rent a leaking truck CAN afford it and sues the socks off of them.

I guess I am just thankful that it wasn't exhaust leaking into the truck causing a major accident after I fell asleep from the fumes, or a major accident from my feet slipping on the pedals. How companies can rent unsafe vehicles like this with total disregard for their customers personal property and safety and still sleep at night is beyond me.

I guess all I can say is be careful when renting from Uhaul, they don't care about your safety, or your personal belongings.
