The Master Craftsman Isn't Fooling Me

To those who have posted before me: I just want to say THANK YOU for speaking up and letting me know about your experiences with this company before I did something foolish.
I have an old blanket box that needs refinishing. I approached the TMC booth at Ribfest in Toronto a couple of weeks ago and thought 'Why not?' I gave the gentleman at the booth my contact information and was contacted today by 'Lori' from TMC. She was very pleasant on the phone, but I became a bit suspicious when she placed me on hold - or possibly mute as I didn't hear any hold music - 3 times, to "check with her dispatcher" on the availability of the estimator for this evening. I sensed a bit of desperation from the company when she said that the estimator would be happy to come to my home as late as 10pm (on a Friday night) to look at my cedar chest! I became even more apprehensive when she recommended that both myself and my husband were present for the free estimate because this would not be a cheap job, and it's best to have all of the financial decision makers present to avoid follow up visits for more information. I scheduled an in home visit and as soon as I hung up the phone, I got online and found that my instincts were correct. It seems that for every glowing referral on the TMC website, there is a negative comment on 'complaint' to combat it. Any company that has salesmen who use tactics like pretending to call the office to get a better price for the potential customer is not one that I want to do business with.
I'm glad I decided to do my homework before I grossly overpaid for work that can be done for a more reasonable price, by a more respectable company.
