EHarmony
Ripoff Underhanded Credit Card Billing Practices Are Tantamount To Theft

Shops, Products, Services

I signed up for eHarmony On May 15 and paid the $99.95 special they had going for 3 months and chose the option for them to not bill me automatically.

On August 15 I received an e-mail telling me that my 3 months were up and that they charged me $29.95 for the ensuing month's worth of service. At that moment I closed the account, checked my credit card and found the charge. I then demanded that they refund my $29.95 for charge that they had no consent for.

Ann Wilson from eHarmony's Customer Care department is sending out e-mails with the excuse that their agreement does not provide for refunds and thinks that by extending me a free month will smooth things over. Problem here is that that month is not free since they already drained $29.95 for that month to begin with.

Am in the process of making this dispute very public. If anybody else is in this bind and you want to talk to somebody about it, please let me know. I am interested in setting up a class-action suit against eHarmony and other companies who practice this kind of billing tactic. Match.com practices this as well as several internet providers and even some organizations that provide things like credit reports and credit security services.

Main problem with companies like these is that once you submit your credit card information, they seem to think that they can use that at their own convenience. This has to stop and we have to exercise our rights. No one should be tapping into your credit card accounts without first seeking your permission.
