Jan Bellows, Hometown Animal Hospital BEWARE - OVERCHARGING

Todays visit on May 17 was for my dog who has an ear infection. Dr. Bellows and two of his associates examined the dog. The examination was very professional, however their recommended remedy was something that was never suggested to me in the past by an vet.

They wanted to put my dog under anesthesia, thoroughly clean his ears, x-rays, examine ear drum, etc. Very in depth indeed. Then came the cost. Dr. Bellows elaborated on how this process is necessary and the cost would be somewhere between $4,000.00- $5,000.00 and of course they would like to begin right now.
My immediate reaction was that there is NO WAY that I had that kind of money. They immediately suggested their finance plan and they were determined to do the treatment today. When I said that I would not commit to it now and would think about it Dr. Bellows then said he would have someone write up the estimate for me to review and get an exact number. This of course was only done since I said NO WAY.

In 5 minutes the estimate is done and then the say, oh it seems to be a bit lower than expected, the cost is like $1,800.00... Would I like to do it!

Dr. Bellows said how they perform this treatment frequently in his office, IF THAT IS THE CASE WHY WAS HE $3,200.00 OFF on his estimate. Perhaps he wanted to see if I would say YES? And when I did not then they went to the lower pricing...

Bottom line is whether it was a mistake or simply an effort to "test the thresh hold of my wallet" I was insulted, and certainly felt I was trying to be scammed.
