In order to get in touch with the Houston County Health Dept., or any of 38 other county departments, it is necesary to call 411 (Information) and pay a $. 75 fee. When any of their numbers are dialed as listed in the telephone book (expiration date 2005) an intercept comes on and says the number is disconnected and 'no further information is available'.
To be certain that I did not misunderstand, I called Bell South and they confirmed that the only way I could get the number was to pay! What a sleazy scam! This is a large county, and the phone company is cleaning up on this little nickel and dime hustle, I estimate a possible $15,000 per day ripoff.
BellSouth seems to favor those little things that slip under the radar, and if you don't believe it you need to re-examine your itemized bill. Check this out: They don't even have a street address!
