Favorites and Fabulous Off I-5 Barely Emerging Non Profit Business Sucked into Tourist Book Scam

Professional sounding offer, "You've been chosen as one of the favorites off I-5, in Cottage Grove, along with the Bed and Breakfast a few doors down from you... To be included in the upcoming latest tourist book entitled "Favorites and Fabulous Off I-5".
As a new to business woman, seeking to get the word out about my new endeavor, I found myself persuaded to accept this offer as legitimate looking paperwork was presented to me. A "win win" it seemed. I would like tourists to stop in at my little tea shop / art gallery / internet cafe'. What could be nicer than to appear in a hard cover "reputable" tourist book?
I was asked for payment up front, which made sense, since a book was being published. Having done some publishing myself, it seemed obvious that money was needed to complete the project. Duh!
I worked diligently to take photos that were satisfactory for publication purposes, going back and forth with the company by email. Received a proof of the "copy".
Promised to receive at least six copies, by early I wrote the check, on the spot.
Yikes!
Where's the book now?
I emailed the company, to only have it bounce back. Calling the company over and over again.
Hard lesson for my not making any profit business. Struggling with advertising dollars only made worse with this "transaction".
