Green-Stitched Shoes Cost More than Orange-Stitched Shoes?!

I bought my son a pair of Van's shoes at Kohl's in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA. They had a pair with orange stitching on top that said they were on sale for $29.99. We found a black pair with green stitching in his size. There were no shoes with green stitching on top with a price tag so we assumed they were also $29.99 since it was literally the same shoe.

When I got to the register they charged me $35.99-$6.00 more for green stitching. When I went to customer service to question this she was very nice but said the green stitching was more money. Since there was no shoe with green stitching on top with a price tag, I think this is pretty poor on Koh's part to charge $6 more for different color stitching.
