Took my $2500 retainer and skipped town

Shops, Products, Services

This man lied to me and took advantage of me in a vulnerable situation. He made me feel confident that he was actually working for my best interest and I actually trusted him to do what he said he was doing. Since I sent a letter to him in December, I sent another in February but still haven't heard back from him. I filed a complaint with the Bar Association, but if they have no idea where he is, I don't really know how much help it will be. Because of what he did, I have no money to find another attorney and have been forced to write up all my own legal documents. I feel completely taken.

When I hired him in I paid my retainer of $2500 and expected him to take care of what he called my "simple divorce decree modification." He consistenly did not show up for appointements and made promises to have things for me to sign then never actually produced anything. When I tried to get a hold of him in Decemeber (after months of not being able to reach him by phone or email, or getting cryptic responses to emails), I'd finally had enough and tried to reach him to tell him I just wanted my money back. I tried calling him, but the number was disconnected so I went all over Google looking for new ones, but all were disconnected. His website was also shut down. When I showed up to his office, you can imagine how I felt seeing another business in his office and to be told he'd moved out "awhile back." After contacting the Bar, I was told that in the 3 years he'd been practicing law, he'd already had 3 disciplines and that was "never a good sign." I hope nobody else ever hires this guy...
