Requesting payment for dvd rentals from 2009

Eceived a letter stating that I owe 49.00 for dvd rentals dating back to 2009. Hollywood video did not let you rent a movie if you had a balance. We were billed several times for movies that they say were not returned. After several weeks I would get a call saying they found the movie and it was not logged back in. If I thought these charges were valid I would pay them but this is caused by bad management and now they want me to pay for something that was taken care of when the movies were returned. I have heard of others being billed in the same way. This is a ripoff and should be investigated.
