Ripoff-overcharge for operated assistance calls & didn't even assist Worldwide Company Nationwide

My husband asked an AT &T operator to check and see if a # we were dialing was off the hook or on the internet. We were using our home phone. The operator just dialed the # for him - it was busy again. Thinking she did not understand what he had asked for he called again - one minute later according to the phone bill. Again an operator just dialed the call for us.

WE were charged over $30 for these two calls (tax included)- and we never got through. At no time were we informed of the cost of the calls or that they could not do what we asked for.

We were able to get one charge removed thru a computer generated request. The person we talked to said nothing could be done and she was not even aware that we could make the computer generate request (it was immediate)

I think customers should be made aware of the rip-off prices AT & T charges for an operator to "dial" a number. I have read about telephone porn sites charging outragous prices but I would not expect it from AT & T. Boy was I wrong. At this point it is not the money since it is only $15, but the fact that people are being charged this outragous price!
