Garden State Readers
GSR Called selling magazines saying I could cancel after 3 months

Shops, Products, Services

Over 6 months ago, I received a call from a representative with Garden State Readers (GSR). She seemed like she was new there. They were offering a deal for 5 magazines per month for free, but would have to pay for the shipping and handling fees. If I signed up for it, I would receive a free set of Ginsu knifes. My first and only question to her was "could cancel at any time???". She said I could cancel after 3 months. On October 31st, I noticed another debit of $19.35 deducted from my checking account from Garden State Readers. I then decided to go ahead and call them to cancel. I received an automated system directing me to an answering machine. I left a message stating that I wanted to cancel my subscription, and that I never received my free set of Ginsu knifes when I ordered the magazines with them either. After a month later, I received a phone call at my work from Garden State Readers wanting to know where their payment was, because I was past due and if I had changed bank accounts. I told her that I had left them a message over a month ago wanting to cancel, never received my knives, and never received a return call until now, because they want my money. She stated to me that I am not allowed to cancel. I told her that when I gave them my authorization to order the magazines, that I was told I could cancel after 3 months. I knew I wasn't going to get anywhere, so I told her to send me to collections, and hung up on her.
