Ripoff took perfect phone to back room, then came out with it broken

I bought a used cricket kyocera phone from friend. It worked perfectly fine when he stopped his phone service from cricket and then he sold it to me.

I took it to cricket business to re-program and activate, but when the "tech" took the phone he punched a few numbers into the computer and then took the phone to the back.

Five minutes later when he returned the phone's message on the screen said "service needed"!!

Just a few moments before the phone was on and was dispaying all functions (even my friends' numbers and names were still stored in the database of the phone because I was scrolling them while waiting in line for over an hour!!!)

Then they said I would have to buy a new phone because the phone I had wasn't able to be programmed!!!
What a rip-off! Has anybody else experienced this type of situation? Please respond if so!
