Layaway department Rip-off

I put stuff on layaway at k-mart on highway 321 in november. When everything was wrung up my total was $248.28. I paid $10.00 on it and my new balance was $238.28. When i came back on dec. 15 to get it out i had to pay up front becouse i was using a credit card. You can pay all of it but a dollar on your credit card.

So i paid $237.28 on my credit card and took my receipt to the layaway dept. When i got up to the cashier named amy i gave her my receipt she brought up my stuff on the register and told me my balance was $216.00 and some change.

I told her tat i wasnt suppose to have to pay nothing but a dollar. Then i also asked her how did my total end up being lower then what i had paid up front she told me i had shopped on family night so i had price adjustments.

I asked her then was she going to put the extra mney that i paid up front back on my credit card and she said "no it will all even out". I left the store and came home to go over my receipts thats when i seen that she had added $42.18 to my total under "20% emp discount adj" but instead of it being a discount it had a plus beside it making my total for my layaway higher than when i had first put it on. So my layaway started off being$248.28 before i paid anything and then after i was suppose to get money back for price adjustments my new total was $270.45. I called the manager and he told me i needed to come back up there.

I did the next day and he was at lunch so i showed all my papers to the lady at the service desk and asked her how this could happen she told me that sometimes when they do price adjustments the new price might be higher then the price it was when you first bought it.

I told her that they could not make something be higher then what it was when i first bought it and she got really rude with me and told me she couldnt help me that i would have to wait or come back later.

So i still have not got any help and i have three kids that i stay home with while my husband go to work in our only car and i have to keep making arrangements to go up to k-mart. Does this seem right? Can they do this? Thank you, stacy chavis
