Exxon Purchasing review

I went to my local exxon to purchase a Pespi and a pack of cigarettes the young lady working the counter asked for my ID she informed me my driver's license was expired, which I am aware of that fact. My problem was I could purchase the Pespi but I couldn't purchase the pack of cigarettes because of an expired license. I would like to know why it is the store policy not to be able to purchase a pack of cigarettes with an expired license. My age is 46 years old even on my best days I couldn't pass for someone under the age of 21. The license clearly states my DOB and a picture, a valid license is a form of identification for driving privilages not purchasing power. If my could be purchased I don't see a reason not to be able to purchase my cigarettes. The young lady was nice it is your store policy; does that mean everyone is ID in your store because that is not true, I have am a regular customer and have never been asked before. Thank you for letting me voice my opinion.
