Magazine subscription never filled, $73 lost

Shops, Products, Services

On February 19, I answered the door and tallked with a young man selling magazines. He was very nice, and he said he was hoping to earn enough money to make products for little people. He said his daughter was born as a little person, as was his wife. He even showed me a picture of the daughter who was almost 3 at the time.

I knew I was going to pay too much for a subscription, but decided to get a magazine for my daughter. I even told Dominic that I was afraid of rip offs. I told him about another time when I realized the magazine I had ordered was not in the right age group for my grand daughter. I called them to change the magazine with no result. I looked them up online to find it was a scam, but I had time to cancel and stop payment.

Dominic assured me it was not a rip off. He was concerned for little people. I had watched the TV show about little people, and I could see they could use some special products to help them out.

So I ordered a 18 month subscription of a magazine for my daughter for $73. I knew it was mostly for points for him. The receipt did say "Delivery within 120 days". If I had gone online to check it out, I could have cancelled the order. I was gullable and believed the young man.

I kept asking my daughter if she had received her first magazine yet. She kept replying no. I told her they said within 120 days, which would be June 19. She hadn't received any magazines, so I called the number on the receipt on July 22.

I got a recording that stated their business days and hours which were Tuesday through Friday, 10: to 5: EST. It was 3:30 my time, which was 5:30 their time. This morning, July 28, I put their name in google. I read the two complaints in "complaint".

So I called again today, July 28, at about 8:10 AM and got a recording with the same message, but that also said, "If you are calling during office hours, all our staff is busy. Please call back later." No opportunity to hold or anything.

I called again around 10:10 AM and actually talked to someone. He asked for the receipt number. I gave it to him, and he said he would call the publisher and see what was going on. He asked for no other information, didn't verify which magazine, or who I was. So I doubt there will ever be a magazine. If there is I will write another statement for "complaint".

This type of thing makes me afraid to answer the door. I don't have $73 to throw away for people who are taking advantage of others. And if the young man lies to people that easily, I feel sorry for him. I truly hope I am wrong and that the magazines start to come. I had also emailed customer service for the magazine to see if they could help me, but haven't heard back from them yet.
