I was a previous Macy's employee about 2 years ago (Stanford, Palo Alto, CA) my experience was rewarding so decided to apply again about a week ago, i was offered an interview (Southland Mall, Hayward, CA). I arrived at the interview about 15 minutes prior, a department manager, whom didn't bother to tell me her name nor head of what department she was asked me to walk with her. She lead me a couple steps to the sales floor. I was a bit confused since the 5 minute interview took place in the middle of the Juniors Dept Sales floor. She asked me a series of 4 questions NONE of which correlated back to my experience as a sales associate (she never even said the words "sales associate"!!) 1. To tell her a little about myself, i did to the best of my knowledge attempting to emphasize my experience in the retail industry. 2. If i knew of a sales goal chart (she attempted to explain this but her English was very difficult to understand) 3. If i was comfortable moving to a different dept, if asked while on shift with no prior notification (of course! I replied i was used to it) 4. If i wanted full time... I responded yes i was available Monday through Saturday Open to Close. But unfortunately wasn't available Sunday due to family. Other than that i was available 6 days out of the week. After hearing this she responded a very generic "we have a lot of interested participants we'll give you a call if were interested.." i asked is it because of my Sunday unavailability? Since NONE of the other questions she asked gave me the chance to emphasize my strengths as a sales associate i thought this could be the only reason why she was sending me away. I have over 2 years retail experience. She replied "Oh, no. We'll give you a call" I am grateful for the chance to work with this company. But you should really get more competent people to be in charge she unfortunately seemed very uninformed and from my past experience when my former manager took me to the sales floor he correlated the interview with our surroundings unlike this department manager. If the reason i wasn't hired was because of my Sunday than i would have rather not wasted my time with an interview since i was more than clear on my application i wasn't available on Sundays. Maybe it was because of the location? All i know is that it was very informal interview that i believe didn't give me a fair chance. Horrible unorganized interview from a very incompetent employee.
