Strand of Carpet-Like Fiber in Misshapen Almond

My fiance' was happily eating a handful of great value almonds and she inspects a misshapen one and hands it to me. I inspect it and it looks as though a strand of carpet is fixed into the crevice that the break has made. It was gross, I'm glad she looked before she ate it.
